Jenson Button says the possibility he could be facing his final British GP will not cross his mind this weekend as he vows to do as good a job as I possibly can in front of his home fans. For the third successive year, Button heads to Silverstone with uncertainty over his future. The 2009 world champion, the most experienced driver on the grid, is out of contract at McLaren at the end of the season with a decision on whether he stays at Woking not expected for several months. This weekend represents the 36-year-olds 17th British GP and he insists his only focus is on performing as well as he can. Theres no point thinking oh, it might be my last because then Ill have to go through those emotions again if it isnt my last, he said.In a way youd say it would be a shame if I didnt think of it as my last and it was my last, but then again I dont want to go into the weekend thinking its going to be my last and you get to the end of the year and thinking b****r it, I actually want to do another year. It doesnt make your last Silverstone grand prix so special then. Craig Slater goes behind the scenes at McLarens headquarters Incredibly, none of Buttons 50 career podium finishes have come at his home race, with the Britons best Silverstone results fourth place in 2004, 2010 and 2014.Asked about the absence of a British GP win on his CV, Button replied: It really hurts, but I cant do anything about that right now. Youve just got to take it.When is the British GP on Sky Sports?Would I rather have a world championship than win the British Grand Prix? Yes, of course. So Ive achieved my main target in Formula 1 already - theres one thing that is definitely missing and thats the British GP.And its not just the win, its even being on the podium. Ive had a couple of races where Ive been close - 2014 a metre away from Daniel Ricciardo. In 2011 I was running in second or third and my wheel fell off coming out of the pits.It just hasnt worked out. But I love the circuit. Its a great layout, the circuit works to me and has been kind to me in terms of outright pace, but the results just havent been there. Jenson Button couldnt hold on to 2nd position throughout the Austrian GP, but was happy to finish sixth Button registered his best result of the season with sixth place in Austria last weekend, but accepts his wait for a Silverstone podium is unlikely to end on Sunday.I can do as good a job as I possibly can, which is what I will do, he said. We wont be fighting for a podium. Theres another British guy that will be, but I wont have that opportunity this year, which is a shame. And I dont know if its going to be my last British Grand Prix, or Im halfway through my career… all I know is that I will do my best with what I have available and thats all I can do in front of my home crowd.Jenson Button on…His favourite British GPs…My first race was pretty awesome. I qualified sixth and overtook Michael Schumacher into turn one, Copse, and finished fifth. I did most of the race on nine [engine] cylinders, not 10, so it was a pretty epic race.DC [David Coulthard] won the race, the British fans went crazy, and we had a massive party after. We had a massive tent where we all wore wigs and acted silly. We dont do that anymore - wear wigs anyway! It was an epic weekend, but very special. The other one was 2014. It was a difficult time for me privately [Jensons father John died earlier that year] and I had a lot of support from the fans which meant a lot.The challenge of Silverstone in 2016…Its not as good as it used to be - the old Bridge and Priory [corners] were fantastic. It has changed a little bit, but turns one and two are pretty epic and didnt exist before. Its just the low-speed corners, but its definitely added something in terms of overtaking and thats what the circuit needed. Its such a difficult circuit to overtake on because its all high-speed, so there are more opportunities. Its taken the thrill away of a qualifying lap but in terms of the race and the action its probably added. The British fans…Its just so nice to see the British fans that come out whether its chucking it down with rain or 30 degrees, which is very unusual.Whatever kit theyre wearing, McLaren kit, Williams kit, Mercedes kit, or whatever, you drive past in your road car or a golf buggy going to the event and theyre all cheering. There is so much support for our sport and we definitely need that. These days there arent so many grands prix that have a full house - but one of those is definitely the British GP. WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are taking that first letter in CFL very seriously, naming Canadian Mike OShea as their new head coach on Wednesday. He was recruited by former University of Guelph teammate and fellow Canadian Kyle Walters, Winnipegs new general manager. "Being Canadian is extremely important to me," OShea said after he was introduced as the teams 30th head coach. But he admitted his nationality hadnt really crossed his mind as he accepted his first head coaching job. He was special teams co-ordinator with the Toronto Argonauts, also his home for most of his 16 years in the league as a middle linebacker. "Do I think it can help in certain situations? Absolutely. . . I am an extremely proud Canadian." OShea succeeds Tim Burke, who was sacked after Winnipeg tied its worst record ever in the 18-game CFL this season at 3-15. Burke replaced Paul LaPolice in mid-2012 and no one has been able to hold the job for long in recent years. It was a point not lost on OShea, 43. How much time will he have to build a winner? "Thats one of the first questions I asked them," he said. "I wanted to find out what their commitment level was. They are committed to this town, this province, this organization and theyre committed to winning. To me it was an easy choice." Its been a busy week for the Bombers. On Tuesday they also named former quarterback Danny McManus and Ted Goveia as new assistant GMs to join Walters in rebuilding the team. Not that OShea likes to think of this as a rebuilding effort, which suggests a process that might take some time. He got a round of applause from the fans in the room when he made that clear. "I know what I believe and the only reason you start a season is to win a Grey Cup, so its my job as a coach (much clapping ensues) its my job as a coach to get people to buy into that." Not long removed from his playing days, some may see OShea as to young and inexperienced to take on the role of head coach. That notion was quickly refuted by Argonauts safety and special teams player Matt Black, who played under OShea for the past four seasons in Toronto. "These people that dont think OShea is qualified are sorely mistaken," Black posted on his Twitterr account.dddddddddddd "His players will sacrifice their bodies for him. Mark my words..." The Bombers havent won a Grey Cup since 1990, although their last appearance at the final isnt that long ago -- 2011. One of the remaining big pieces to put in place is a starting quarterback for 2014 but OShea wouldnt comment at all on any suggestion Zach Collaros might be a candidate. The Argos backup is under contract and off limits as such. OShea did say he was a great guy. The Argos are having a pre-Christmas sale it seems with defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones named head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos just last week. The Bombers have now pretty well cleaned house after the Joe Mack as GM era, replacing their president, general manager and coach. OShea, a native of North Bay, Ont., spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the Argonauts. He was part of four Grey Cup winning teams, three as a player (1996, 1997 and 2004) and his first as a coach in 2012, leading a stalwart special teams unit for the Argos. OShea also won the CFLs Most Outstanding Canadian award in 1999. He described the kind of team he hopes to put on the field next season. "If I were going to envision how were going to win games, its gong to be defence and special teams. Its going to be hard-nosed but disciplined football. Theyre going to be hard-working guys, character players. Were going to do it the old-fashioned way." Walters says like OShea, he wants the Bombers to become a team that wins consistently and the work starts right now. "Our No. 1 priority is to put a process in place that can ensure sustainable winning. And as Mike said you dont start the year with any other goal than winning the Grey Cup . . . and that will be our goal." Several key members of the Argos took to Twitter to wish their former coach well in Manitobas capital. "Just found out that our Special Teams Ace is moving on and up!" posted star receiver and kick returner Chad Owens. "Proud and Blessed to have battled for you Osh! Def wont be the same!" Added receiver Andre Durie: "It has been a true honour to have played with and Developed under Coach OShea ...wish him all the best in the Peg....except against us." ' ' '
